07/05/08  Club AGM

The Club AGM was held on Tuesday 6th May at 8.00pm in the clubrooms.

The current officers remain the same for another year, although there was a vote for the position of Chairman -

Chairman is David Temple;
Secretary is Bernard Davies;
Treasurer is Mike Rimes.

There was an election for the four other committee posts, resulting in Mike Bishop, John Chivers, John Harding and Nick Rees being elected after a ballot.

Brian Clark and Howie Jupp remain Auditor and Librarian respectively. Peter Wayne, agreed to look after the kitchen for a further year.

The position regarding a possible move of premises was clarified. It was reported that the windows in the back rooms had been replaced last Summer and redecoration of some rooms had been completed. However, the committee had now agreed to delay any further expenditure on the fabric of the clubrooms. The Chairman and other Club members would attend the next AGM of the Conservative Club.

Following extensive discussion, it was agreed to raise the subscriptions for the first time in several years.

07/05/08  Club success at the Bristol Show.

This past weekend was one of the Club's busiest and most successful at the Bristol Model Railway Exhibition in Thornbury. Both Mike Curtis’s Abbeywood layout and Gwynne & John Chivers’s Cwmderi were operated throughout the weekend without mishap and club members supported the NMRA and DEMU Society stands.
On the competition front, we did very well again. Congratulations go to:
Brian Bunce, who walked away with the Swindon Cup for the best scratch built locomotive and Craftsman of the Year for the GWR small Prairie and then won the Scaleseven Trophy for best model in 7mm scale for his Taff Vale Class H tank loco;
Gwynne & John Chivers, who won the Association Cup for best layout in the Exhibition from an Association member for Cwmderi;
Keith Mathews, who won the Rhondda Cup for the best model in 2mm scale;
and finally
Steve Jones, who won the David Teall Trophy for the best completed non-British outline model.
Six out of the 19 trophies coming to our club in one year must be a record.

08/03/08  Memorial Exhibition for the late Brian Scoulding

We are organising a memorial exhibition in honour of the late Brian Scoulding on Sunday 6th July 2008 in the Paget Rooms, Victoria Road, Penarth.

Brian was a resident of Cosmeston, Penarth for the last 20 years of his life and was an enthusiastic member of the Barry & Penarth MRC. He passed away from Motor Neurone disease in November 2007.

We have located five of the layouts he built and we hope all will be exhibited in their current form.

We also hope that some of the current and former members of the Loden Vale Model Railway Club, which Brian helped to form when he lived in the Reading area, will also be able to attend. Watch this web site for more information.

This exhibition will form part of this year's Penarth Festival.
